Phatthalung Province - Thailand

Today I would like to introduce you to know my hometown.. Patthalung Province.... here we go..

Phatthalung is an ancient city in southern Thailand. It is a land of mountains. In town is Khao Ok Thalu, which is clearly visible from afar. Phatthalung is regarded as the birthplace of the shadow play and the Nora dance.

From ancient times to the present, Phatthalung has been closely linked to Songkhla Province, particularly in terms of geography, history and migratory settlements through many ages. During the Srivijaya period (13th-14th Buddhist century), the Phatthalung community received Indian cultural influence in the way of Mahayana Buddhism. In the reign of King Ramathibodi I (U Thong) of Ayutthaya, Phatthalung became one of twelve royal cities. Later during the reign of King Rama I in the Rattanakosin period, the king had the Ministry of Defense oversee Phatthalung, upgraded it to secondary city status and moved it to the mouth of Pam River.

When there was an administration reform in the reign of King Rama V, Phatthalung prefecture came under Nakhon Si Thammarat prefecture until 1924, when King Rama VI relocated the city to Tambon Khuha Sawan where it has been ever since. Upon the abolition of the prefecture system in 1933, Phatthalung became a province outright.

Phatthalung city is situated on the west bank of Songkhla Lake, about 846 kilometres from Bangkok. Good Morning Vietnam : II

Day Two : Perfume Pagoda Trip

6am our breakfast have served at our room. Why we didn't ready by 6am? Because the receptionist at the hotel told us that we don't have to get ready as the lady from sinh cafe told because the van never arrived before 6:30am.

6:35am. the van stoped in front of our hotel. They were four Chineses peoples there already. We're not the last one in this van they still have to pick the other people. Our group was 12 persons.

Perfume pagoda was in front of me about 9am. Perfume Pagoda is located on the limestone rocks of Huong Son Mountain in beautiful and mystical surroundings.

Four of us sat in the same boat, normally an iron boat can carry 3-5 peoples. I noticed that all woman paddle a boat and when I asked paddler why not any man do this job because I felt it is too hard for woman to paddle for almost 2 hours round trip but she seems not understood what I have said to her. Anyone know this reason?

To sit almost 60 minutes on small boat if you are tall or not used to with sitting like this might get pain and easy to get tired. When we're waiting to get on boat and the Vietnames girl she came to talk to us. She thought that we're Vietnamese and when we asked her to guess and she said Cambodian :) we're just smile. She was a photograper and took a another boat to tried to get a customer.. She followed us even we when we try to tell her that we have 4 cameras here already and told her to try with another people who came together with their lover and she might get luck. I am not sure if how much she can earn money from this job. Just hope they might have some people who please to get her this job. It not bad to get a picture with the wonderful background.

When we got on the land again and walked up to the mountain. We had small trekking up to the mountain (it big for me though) We pased several temples and finally got out at Thien Chu temple. Thien chu is stunning. About 4 kms and we could get to the Perfume Pagoda (Could't believe I can done this) Perfume Pagoda is a cave and a little bit dark. I couldntt concentrate to listen to our guide telling about the history much. My legs was shaking from long treking or his English accent was difficult for me to understand.
After Perfume Pagoda and our guide asked if anyone wanted to walk back of course I won't.. We took sky car back and went straight to the restaurant for lunch.

After lunch we had time to walk around and our group walked up little more again (different way from before) to the temple. One of my friend very interested in inside the temple, wall, painting but I prefer to take a picture around.

On the way back from Perfume Pagoda and it was about 4pm. We took the same boat back. The river looked more beautiful as it was late noon. The sun went up to another side and just little bit higher from the mountain. The light from the sun touch the water in the river made it look fantastic. I was so impressed with this trip and I could say once you have time to visit Vietnam and Perfume Pagoda is the place you shouldn't missed to visit.
We got back to the hotel around 7:30pm..We just reconized that tomorrow we have to leave to Halong Bay at the early morning and will stay there for one night so we have to book another room when we come back.. We like this hotel and decided to stay here for all this trip.
We had Italain food for dinner.. Yummy!

Good Morning Vietnam : I

Day One : Landed in Vietnam

FD3700 brought us from Bangkok to Hanoi... There was still 9am at the morning. The weather was about 20 degree.

After immigration we have changed some money to Vietnam note but I prefer to keep dollar.

We took a van from the airport to the hotel because it cheaper and it good to can talk with other tourists also to can have more time to see Hanoi as they have to droped another passengers and we were the last one.

We arrived at the hotel at 10:30am. We stayed at Sunrise Hotel Hanoi. There was a small hotel with 4 floors 18 rooms. We booked just only 2 nights at the first because still not sure what we will do after. I can say that their staffs here is very friendly and their room are very nice ( I like the bed the most) compare with 20$ per night with breakfast.

On the way from the airport to the hotel and we saw some nice small road with many souvenir shops. We decided to take a walk around there. Lonely planet book had open for the map. We found that the place we saw not far from our hotel and we're in a centre of shoping area.

The weather was a bit cool so I took my jersey and we walked to Hoan Kiem Lake.It took only just few minutes to get there. The weather was so lovely, so beautiful to walk. We stoped at the coffee shop at the corner of the lake. I had hot capuchino with chocolate croissant while my friends had ice capuchino. I love to sit and drink coffee with a warm lovely weather. Most customers were European and only our desk was Asian feeling like sitting in somewhere not Asia country :-)

We discussed about what to do for tomorrow (I want to tell for this trip we didn't make any plans for what to do or where to go as we are just only want to take a rest and let our day go easy) I told my friends that I have read from internet and they say "Perfume Pagoda" is very beautiful and because I really love to sit on the boat so we agreed to go there tomorrow.

We left the coffee corner after sitting there for 2 hours. We walked around and stoped at Sinh Cafe to buy one day trip tour to Perfume Pagoda. We bought also 2 days trip tour to Halong Bay. The lady told us the van would pick us at the early morning by 6am and confirmed us to not late. WE WON'T

The weather colder than we have thought and some of my friends not brought enough warm clothes so we had to buy some new. Our shoping started so quick. I prefered window shoping and enjoyed eating street food called "spring roll" that similar with our spring roll in Thailand but here in Vietnam more tasty I think. My friend got a lots of stuff for themself..shoes, pants, t-shirt,..

We got back to the hotel after long walk and our plan tonight having dinner at Vietnamese restaurant.... Yummy !

SilkRoad - Cambodia Part I

Sawasdee Krub

That was a word I had welcome by Cambodia Immigration Division. It’s made me feeling warm and getting love Cambodia by then… (Actully “sawasdee” is not the cambodian greeting word but is Thai.. I had welcome with my language)

We planed for the trip about a month as we could take vacation same time. That would be our first time with long trip together. Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos or India.. That was on our lists and we’re ended up with Cambodia.

Our trip started at the early morning of July 22nd, 2006. The flight PG 930 with Bangkok Botique Airline from Bangkok - Siem Reap.
Just 50 minutes on the plane and we landed in Siem Reap. The airport was new but can not compared with Thailand.
First step we had to get a visa on arrival and I paid for 1000 baht (actually only 20$ but I didn't have dollar note) it take for some minutes from here untill immigration..

We took a taxi airport (I was surprised with old car but I felt excited and could enjoy sitting on the old car) Our taxi driver speke very good English, friendly and he did a good in busines. We decided to to used his service in only few minutes talking to him on the way to the hotel.. Our travel in Cambodia.. starting

Comming up next ...
